Luna Park Series

The Luna park series was aptly named ‘ the darker side of pregnancy’ as
it was painted during the time of my last trimester and completed
soon after my child was born. Unfortunately like many other women
I suffered from extreme anxiety verging on pre natal depression and
post natal and Luna Park was a metaphor for so called madness. During
this time I was studying fine arts at Newcastle Uni and was totally
unprepared for the pregnancy. Not trying to be too twisted I also
used quirkiness and frivolity to depict my inner turmoil that soon
dissipated after Ruby was born whom is now 13. This was to be my
1st solo exhibition and was quite evident back then the use of bright
bold stylised imagery and symbolic story telling in each work. These
works have been used in Lecture halls in United States by a renowned
psychologist professor on dealing pre and postnatal depression.
